  • NFL Trade Rumors

    January 19th, 2010 by

Its been a dissapointing year for all but the four remaining teams in the NFL.  As the season comes to a close many teams are already scrammbling to secure the best free agents available. Will there be a salary cap next year? If not the Washington Redskins will look to be the forerunners of any big moves this offseason, as usual. Who will they target? Will Shannahan keep Clinton Portis or will he let him go for a second time? I think that if  Shannahan let him go once, there is no reason he won’t do it again. The Skins really stand to benefit from a cap-less year due to the players contracts they could terminate with no cap hit. Teams looking to rebuild will be in the same boat. Another big name that is a potential free agent is Anquan Boldin. He wanted out last year, and after not playing in the playoffs I’m sure the Cards will be ready to move him. What team would target him? The New York Giants of course! The team missed the playoffs due to inconsitent play and injuries. Look at what happened after Plaxico shot himself, the team fell apart. With Boldin the Giants would be in position to contend in the competative NFC East.  Of course the biggest free agent name for next year will be Michael Vick. If the Eagles want to retain him they will have to pay him over 5 million dollars next season.  With Reid guarenteed to be in Philly until 2013, I doubt that Donovan McNabb is going anywhere, so all things point to Vick being traded. Who would benefit the most from the former Falcons standout QB? Number one on that list is the Carolina Panthers. With an aging (and inconsistent) Jake Delhomme the Panthers were forced to rely on the run last season. This may have been a blessing in disguise because the Panthers found out that they have a potent rushing attack. Now imagine Vick between split-backs Deangelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart… kinda scary if you play in the NFC South. Another team that looks to be in the market is the Cleveland Browns. Derek Anderson hasn’t looked good for a couple seasons and Brady Quinn doesn’t look like he is ready to take the reigns yet. Cribbs was used in the wild-cat offense last season and he looked good running the ball. The only problem is that he isn’t a passing risk so other teams crowd the box. If Vick were to go to the Browns they would have a dynamic offense. Finally, albeit a long shot, the Miami Dolphins. They have expressed interest in Tim Tebow, who’s skill set is not going to translate to the pros (in my opinion). Vick would make a mid level offense an explosive one. Where do you think he will wind up?

With the Super Bowl looming and the Winter Olympics still to come the year 2010 is sure to offer exciting sports action. Will the Saints make history? Does the men’s United States hockey  team have a chance? Off the field professional athletes never fail to amaze with their blunders.  From Tiger with his myriad of women to Gilbert Arenas brandishing guns at teammate, the headlines just kept coming.  What athlete will be next to grab the headlines with a stupid move? My guess… Ochocinco by changing his first name to Esteban. Who do you think?
